About the Artist
Ame Houston is a self-taught painter/multi-media artist.
They are currently working primarily in acrylic, oil, and linocut printmaking. Raised in Metro Detroit and now based in East Tennessee, their work is rooted in the imagery of urban decay and changing landscapes. These themes are emphasized in their latest series, 'Love Letters'.
Through imagery of deterioration, Houston explores the beauty in things deemed imperfect, or broken by societal standards. Their work reflects on how bodies and spaces continue to hold meaning, function, and presence even when they fall outside expectations of wholeness or permanence.
